Scientific Notation Calculator
Our free Scientific Notation Calculator makes it easy to work with very large or very small numbers. Whether you need to convert a standard decimal number into scientific notation (often called standard form), or you need to add, subtract, multiply, or divide numbers already in scientific or E-notation, this tool provides instant and accurate results.
What is Scientific Notation?
Scientific notation is a way of expressing numbers that are too big or too small to be conveniently written in decimal form. It is commonly used by scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.
A number is written in scientific notation when a number between 1 and 10 is multiplied by a power of 10.
For example, the number 5,000,000 can be written as 5 × 10^6. In E-notation (often used on calculators and computers), this same number is written as 5e6.
