What is a Pregnancy Conception Calculator?
If you recently found out you are pregnant, one of your very first questions will naturally be: "Exactly when did I conceive?"
Our Online Conception Calculator works in absolute reverse. Instead of predicting the future delivery date, it uses your current clinical data—such as an estimated due date or an early ultrasound scan—to mathematically backtrack to the exact day fertilization most likely occurred.
How Conception Math Works
Calculating the exact moment of conception can be clinically tricky because gestational age is traditionally measured from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), not from the moment of conception.
Our biological engine parses three different methods to find your date:
- From Due Date: If your doctor has given you an Estimated Due Date (EDD), the formula subtracts exactly 266 days (38 weeks) from that target date to isolate the day of conception.
- From Ultrasound: Early ultrasounds measure fetal "Crown-Rump Length" (CRL) to determine exact gestational age in weeks and days. By inputting the date of the ultrasound and the exact gestational age measured, we subtract the fetal age down to the day to isolate fertilization.
- From Last Period (LMP): If you only know when your last cycle began, the engine assumes standard ovulation roughly 14 days later (adjusted if your typical cycle is longer or shorter than 28 days) to find the conception window.
The Intercourse / Fertility Window
It is mathematically crucial to understand that the "Date of Conception" is the day the egg was fertilized, but it may not be the day you had intercourse. Sperm can survive inside the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days, while an egg survives for roughly 24 hours after ovulation.
Once your exact Conception Date is calculated, our engine will automatically generate a 5-to-6 day Intercourse Window highlighting the dates where intercourse most likely resulted in the pregnancy.
